AIMSC congratulates Winangali for being named last night as the 2012 Telstra Queensland Business of the Year.
Winangali is an independent Indigenous communications and social research consultancy specialising in reaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander markets and has been a member of AIMSC since 5 April 2010.
Telstra Business Awards Ambassador, Will Irving, said Winangali had many attributes that made it a stand-out among the 24 finalists in 2012.
CEO of AIMSC Natalie Walker said “it was wonderful to hear that the judges identified Winangali’s ability to balance a cause-committed business which is driving positive change and delivering strong revenues and profit.
“The judges also said they were particularly impressed with Winangali’s business discipline and focus and the balance in its decision-making between commercial advantage and integrity and values.
“This is a wonderful achievement for a company that is only seven years old and an excellent role model for Indigenous businesses right across Australia.
“There has been a rapid growth in Indigenous enterprises particularly over the last 3 years.
AIMSC suppliers have quadrupled the value of contracts awarded and are continuing to go from strength to strength.” Ms Walker said.
As Australia’s first nationally available Certified Indigenous business procurement service, AIMSC’s aim is to help build up majority owned Indigenous businesses in Australia in every industry.
“Our mission is to help create a sustainable, vibrant and prosperous Indigenous enterprise sector able to play a big role in increasing Indigenous economic self-determination, independence and employment.
“Over the next five years our goal is to certify 650 Indigenous businesses.
"Winangali" is a Kamilaroi word meaning to hear, to listen, to know, to remember – they are a well deserved winner of this prestige award and provide a wonderful example of what Indigenous businesses can and will achieve.” Ms Walker said.
