The Australian Labor Party has introduced Closing the Gap Policy, ahead of September election
Jenny Macklin, Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs has announced the ALP's Closing the Gap Policy for this year's election. The policy outlines what is to be done next, and what targets will be met in the coming year.
In 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd delivered the National Apology to Australia’s Indigenous Peoples, in particular the Stolen Generations. Those significant words were followed by Labor's commitment to close the gap on Indigenous disadvantage.
Since 2008 the Labor Government has made an investment of more than $5.5 billion through the Closing the Gap frameworth in vital areas such as health, education, housing and essential services, welfare reform, recognition and advocacy and Indigenous languages and art.
